TEEN MODE – AN UGLY BETTY FANFIC

I do not own Ugly Betty

Justin slammed his bedroom door shut and flung himself onto his bed. It had been a bad day at school. His best friend, Hilary, had left the school for good last week, and he had had to sit by himself at lunch. His other friends apparently had only pretended to like him, because Hilary had made them. He felt almost as bad as when his dad had died, and that had been terrible. He wished he could be like all the other kids at school, but he just didn't fit in, no matter how hard he tried. Whatever he did, he'd always be different. But that had been OK, because he had Hilary, and she was there for him, and cared about him. But she was in California, now.

"Justin?"

"Just go away, Mom!" He regretted it as soon as he said it - it wasn't _her _fault Hilary had left, or that he was so different - but she'd never understand - she'd been popular at school. She had never felt like an outcast.

"Are you OK?"

"What does it look like?"

"Of course you're not . Oh, Justin." She wrapped her arms around him. He didn't normally let her hold him like this, but right now he needed her.

"I miss her already"

"I know"

They sat there, for a few minutes.

"OK?"

"Yeah." Justin sniffed. Hilda squeezed his hand tightly, and left, closing the door softly behind her. A single tear fell on to Justin's cheek.

Justin was still feeling sorry for himself, when there was a knock on his bedroom door.

"Justin?" It was his Aunt Betty.

"What?"

Justin looked up to see Betty standing in the doorway with a huge grin on her face. Justin didn't see what there was to be happy about.

"I think you should come downstairs - Fashion TV is on..."

"I'm never watching that show again!" Justin knew that he had to change - all he wanted was to fit in, but he'd never fit in if he read Mode and watched Fashion TV.

"Don't be ridiculous, Justin. You love Fashion TV!"

"Not anymore!"

"Please, Justin... "

"It's not _ normal _is it? I just want to be like everyone else"

"You know what? You're not like everyone else, Justin. You are not afraid to be who you are - most people hide behind fake personas, because they are too afraid people won't like the real them. But Justin, you've always been proud of yourself - don't change now!" Justin could feel one of Betty's pep talks coming on... " I wish I had someone tell me when I was at school that it's OK to be different. We are all so proud of you. Maybe school's a bit rough right now. They just don't understand you. It's OK. No-one understood me in High School either, but look at me now - I work at Mode Magazine, I have friends, I have Henry... "

"I don't need you bragging about your love life right now, OK?" Justin felt his Aunt Betty was being really self-absorbed, thinking about her perfect life and bragging about it when his life was so awful right now. "I've got another 5 years of High School to put up with, then College. It's not fair!"

"You might not have as long to wait as you think..."

"What do you mean?"

"Just come see Fashion TV and all will become clear!" Betty said with a sly grin.
